Get to know Lori
Hi! I'm Lori Allen and I am the owner of Village Wellness Family Therapy. I am also a mother, wife, sister, daughter, aunt, friend and therapist. You can also call me a Mom Motivator, a Change Maker, an Emotional Supporter and a Relationship Builder.
I specialize in working with pregnant and postpartum moms, parents of young children, and adults and children with anxiety. I can help you find more peace in your relationships, feel like a more confident mom, calm your anxious thoughts and help you become happier.
Being a mom is hard as F***. As a mother of three I can tell you that there is no such thing as an instruction manual when it come to having babies and raising kids. I rely on my village of moms to help me get through the tough times, and even then I still need help. As a Mom Motivator I can help you feel like a more confident parent, by normalizing some of the challenging things and providing you the tools to deal with the unexpected, including postpartum depression and anxiety. As a survivor of postpartum depression and anxiety myself I know how hard it is to ask for help. But I want you to know that you are not alone and we are always here to help.
Change Maker & Emotional Supporter
I know that change is hard for me, and I know that I am in good company. But change is also an inevitable part of life. If you are looking to change the way you think or feel, help your child manage their behavior or emotions or redefine who you are as a person as the result of a major life change I can help. I provide a safe and confidential space to process your emotions and learn how to manage them in your daily life leading to higher levels of satisfaction in your daily life or in the life of your child.
It’s everyone’s goal to have peaceful, happy, satisfying relationships with those around them but sometimes we need help. We need help to feel more confident, to speak our mind, and to have our needs met by our partners. We need help to parent with confidence knowing that at the end of the day our children still love and respect us. And sometimes we need to learn how to be more comfortable in social situations. No matter the cause of the dissatisfaction, I can help teach you the tools you need to feel more confident, be happier and have more meaningful, authentic relationships.
How I do it
I practice from a strength based perspective using a combination of modalities including cognitive behavioral therapy, positive psychology, art therapy and narrative therapy to help you reach your goals. I am a believer in practicing brave and staying true to yourself, which is why I meet you where you are in your journey to healing.
I graduated from the Phillips Graduate Institute in 2008 with a Masters degree in Psychology and Art Therapy. I am a certified crisis counselor, a member of CAMFT (California Association of Marriage and Family Therapists), and a member of Postpartum Support International (PSI). I have advanced training in Trauma Focused Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Solution Focused Therapy and the best practices for treating pregnant and postpartum women.
A little more about me
I honestly believe that for therapy to work you have to trust and know your therapist, so in order to make that easier I think there are some things you should know about me. I have 3 young kids (5, 4 and 2), an amazing husband and a 3-legged dog named Joey (she gets confused for a baby kangaroo). As a family we love spending time at the beach and making things. I was raised in the Midwest, went to school on the east coast and have lived in California most of my adult life. I studied Art in my undergraduate work and continue to create art today. I love to weave, re-purpose old objects, spend time in flea markets and have recently started raising monarch caterpillars.
